Coney Shack

During our day-trip to Coney Island, Lexie and I had looked at reviews of places to eat in the immediate area. For more local results, I tend to be a huge fan of Yelp!. The search pointed me to a Food Truck, the Coney Shack:

Coney Shack Brooklyn

This little gem is located on W 8th Street just about a 5-10 minute walk from Coney Island and the NY Aquarium. It has an absolutely great menu and more importantly, the price is right.

Coney Shack Brooklyn MenuWe apologize for the glare, but the prices aren’t too shabby for New York! The Chicka Dog costs $4.

Lexie and I opted for the Mix & Match “3 for $7” taco option and went with the Vietnamese Marinated Beef Short Ribs, Lemon Grass Garlic Chicken, and Beer Battered Fish Crunch. When we were there, the most popular option was absolutely the Beer Battered Fish Crunch, so we knew we had try that. We also got a Chicka Dog just because it sounded so unique.

If Lexie not being able to get a picture before I ate the Beef and Chicken tacos is any indicator, the food was absolutely delicious. Each taco, although small, was packed with food. All of the vegetables were fresh and crunchy and the meat tasted phenomenal. The star of all the tacos was most certainly the Beer Battered Fish Crunch and it rivals any fish taco I personally have ever had. The “Shack Sauce” (that I thought would be trademarked by Shake Shack) was absolutely awesome and really added to the flavor of the taco. The Shack Sauce was not spicy at all, but Coney Shack offers a nice variety of hot sauces to satisfy anyone’s needs.

The Chicka Dog was also completely loaded as the picture earlier clearly depicts. It definitely had a kick to it since jalapenos are an ingredient, but it was not overwhelming at all. I found it to be great but if I were to go again I would probably just order more tacos.

Coney Shack BrooklynOverall, I would say this has to be one of the best food truck experiences Lex and I have ever had and we try to hit as many as we can. For the price of $11 (which is the NYC equivalent of $5 it seems), I think it is going to be hard to beat the quality the Coney Shack offers. Do yourself a favor and stop by.
